Pwllheli RFC Youths 25 Bala Youths RFC 7

Though weather conditions were not the best both teams gave it their all and treated the crowd to a match epitomised by effort and pride in their respective club jerseys. Both teams knew what to expect of each other as they had met earlier in two league encounters.  Though Pwllheli dominated possession and territory in the first period the first score did not come until Rhys Evans put them three points up with a penalty. This stirred Bala to even greater efforts and on twenty four minutes they won the loose ball in Pwllheli's twenty two. Quick ball allowed them to give their backs room in which to move and the ball was swept to winger Ilan Evans who crashed over in the corner. Telor Jones added the difficult conversion. Though Pwllheli took the game to Bala they could not pierce Bala's resolute defence. Half time came with Bala holding a slender seven to three lead.

A reinvigorated Pwllheli brought a lot more intensity and pace into the game. Within a minute Pwllheli's scrum half IfanTywyn caught Bala napping to give his side the lead. Pwllheli kept up the tempo and increased their lead with a fourteenth minute penalty by fly half Danial Glyn Williams. The match tightened up again with the arm wrestle giving both sides periods of possession. Pwllheli dug deep and on twenty eight minutes their number eight Huw Owen scored to put daylight between the teams. Danial Willams' conversion took Pwllheli eighteen to seven up. With five minutes to go victory was secured with a try from centre Gethin Jones. Danial Williams added the conversion for the last score of the contest.

Danial Glyn Williams was awarded Man of the Match by the North Wales officials and sponsors.

This is the first time the Club have held four North Wales Trophies at any one time. To have achieved this is testament to the hard work of the players and coaches. Head Coach I.D.LL.Jones deserves special commendation for the way he has been able to instil a system of playing which has stood the Club in good stead. His honest direct approach has allowed the players to understand what is expected of them and they have responded by endeavour and commitment. All who have Pwllheli RFC's best interests at heart realise the strides that have been made in progressing team values and expectations. IDLL has in turn valued the support provided by Assistant coaches David Martin and Michael Chapman , team managers and First Aiders. Winning the Division 1 North League and beating second place Nant Conwy both home and away has made a clear statement and lifting the North Wales Plate was a pleasing bonus. The Seconds also ,under the guidance of Euron Jones, had an excellent season winning the North Wales Seconds Cup and coming a creditable third in the League. Mark Roberts' and Ian Hughes' work with  the Youths earned them the North Wales Youth Plate and again this was the result of perseverance and effort.

The hard work starts now.Ken Davies has been working dilgently to put in a challenging list of pre season matches. Arrangements for the Club's in house Sevens Tournament are well in hand .The Club's tour to South West France and Spain in October is another incentive to the players as they face a formidable Dax Academy side as well as Gernika RFC in Spain. The season formally closes on Friday May 29 when the Club holds a Presentation evening.
