Match Report
16 April 2018 / Team News

Pwllheli RFC 141 Colwyn Bay 10.

Though the pitch was heavy conditions were good for this League match.

Colwyn Bay travelled with only thirteen players but it was impossible to permit players at the last minute.
The game was sympathetically refereed by Andrew Davies .He allowed he game to flow which was appreciated by players of both teams. Scrums were uncontested from the outset.

Given the numerical disparity is was no surprise that Pwllheli dominated the game. Having said that Colwyn Bay took the lead with a penalty in the first minute of the match. Pwllheli soon got into their rhythm .After only three minutes debutante centre Harri Moncrieffe finished off a good move after three minutes of play. Further tries were scored in quick succession and the try bonus point was achieved after only thirteen minutes. Despite the valiant effort of the visiting players they were unable to stem the flow of scores By half time Pwllheli had amassed eleven tries and converted six of them

Half time Pwllheli 67  Colwyn Bay 3.

The second half opened with the visitors scoring a try in the first minute which was one of the best of the day. Sadly for the Bay Pwllheli responded with twelve tries of their own of which seven were converted.
It is not a cliche to say the the Bay team did themselves proud. Firstly for turning up at all  to a match they were very likely to lose. Secondly they competed to the end and put ther bodies on the line for their club. Caps off to them.

The Lleyn side totalled twenty three tries  of which thirteen were converted. The try scorers were wing Robin Hughes Jones and centre Deio Brunelli each scoring four. Hat-tricks were achieved by captain Nick Butterworth, full back John Pugh and fly half Owain Williams.Right wing Osian Parry Jones added a brace with second row Geraint Parry, cente Harri Moncrieffe, backrowers Ellis Griffith and Ieuan Williams completing the try scoring.

Pwllheli used the opportunity to blood new players to the first team set up. No fewer than five Youth players had the opportunity of game time  - Ellis Parri, Harri Moncriefe, Ifan Roberts,Ieuan Williams and William Owen ,. All did well  with Harri Moncrieffe and Ieuan Williams each scoring a try. It is hoped the experience will stand them in good stead.

Pwllheli's supporters showed their appreciation of the efforts of the Colwyn Bay players by  applauding them off the pitch.

Pwllheli lost a hard contested Gwynedd Cup  match away to Nant Conwy.

Pwllheli now have a tough away fixture against in form Llandudno next Saturday. They will have to be at their best to come away with the points.
